It is the dream of Hindus worldwide that when they die, their ashes may be sent back to the Holy River Ganges and let loose in the waters. Funeral pyres, tended by priests and family, dot the shoreline of the river and ceremonies of passage continue throughout the day. I spoke with a Brahmin - a holy man - the morning that I visited the river. He explained to me that the most devout Hindus - perhaps spiritual leaders - are actually returned whole to the river.... It seemed like such a natural passage.......
